Edward Schiappa is an American scholar specializing in communication and rhetoric. He is former co-chair of the Gender Equity Committee at the School of Humanities, Arts, and Social Sciences. Currently, he serves as a Professor of Comparative Media Studies/Writing at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, where he holds the prestigious John E. Burchard Chair of Humanities. From 2013 to 2019, he also served as the program's Head.

He is the author of 12 books and numerous articles published in journals spanning classics, communication, English/composition, philosophy, psychology, and law. Schiappa has developed influential research in three key areas: classical rhetoric, contemporary rhetorical theory and argumentation, and popular culture.

His research has been published in leading journals, including Philosophy & Rhetoric, Argumentation, Communication Monographs, and Communication Theory. In 2009, he was recognized as a Distinguished Scholar by the National Communication Association.
