Polina Golland is the Sunlin (1966) and Priscilla Chou Professor of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and a principal investigator in the Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence Laboratory (CSAIL). Her research interests span computer vision and machine learning, with a focus on developing new techniques for biomedical image analysis and understanding.

Her current research explores statistical methods for characterizing biological processes using images, from MRI to microscopy, as a source of information. Her work includes developing algorithms that explore the geometry of the world and the imaging process, as well as using statistical modeling to improve image-based inference. She is particularly interested in biological shape and function, their relationship and variation across individuals, shape modeling and representation, predictive modeling, and visualization of statistical models.
