MIT to launch Enterprise Additive Manufacturing course in April

Five-day program blends MIT instruction with industry immersion at North America’s leading 3D printing event

The Massachusetts Institute of Technology Center for Advanced Production Technologies will hold its Enterprise Additive Manufacturing course from April 13 to 17, 2026, coinciding with the RAPID + TCT trade show in Boston, Massachusetts. The five-day professional program is designed to help engineers and manufacturing specialists evaluate and implement additive manufacturing (AM) technologies across industries.

Hands-on training meets industry

The course will include 3.5 days of lectures and workshops on MIT’s campus, combined with two half-days at the RAPID + TCT exposition, where participants will engage with machine manufacturers, materials providers, and service bureaus. MIT faculty and staff will guide attendees in connecting classroom learning with real-world technology scouting and business development opportunities on the show floor.

Participants will learn to design, cost, and plan AM applications through a blend of lectures, case studies, and team-based projects. Each team will define an additively manufactured part or product, develop initial designs, perform cost modeling, and create a production strategy that considers process selection, materials, and supply-chain factors. Past course projects have evolved into commercial products and internal manufacturing solutions at large enterprises and public organizations.

According to Haden Quinlan, Senior Program Manager at MIT’s Center for Advanced Production Technologies, the goal of this year’s program is to “connect the technical and business dimensions of additive manufacturing by taking participants from concept design to industry engagement in a single week.”
