Mastering Innovation and Design Thinking

Instructor: Blade Kotelly

To be successful at work, you need to know how to think like a designer when approaching an engineering task alone, but you especially need design-thinking skills when working within a team or leading a team. By applying a design-centered approach you’ll be able to conceive of radically innovative solutions, deeply understand who your real stakeholders are and what they care about, create vision that gets buy-in from senior management and colleagues, avoid hazards, and create solutions that people love both emotionally and intellectually.

While Digital Programs courses were previously offered through MIT Professional Education, they are now available through the Office of Digital Learning (ODL). Visit the MITxPro website for a complete list of course offerings, which include but are not limited to:

Architecture and Systems Engineering: Models and Methods to Manage Complex Systems

In this first online Professional Certificate program in Architecture and Systems Engineering, you will be able to frame systems architecture and learn concepts and strategies for designing, managing, and optimizing complex systems to suit you and your organization's needs. Understand and analyze complex systems and model management that will impact how you approach and solve problems in the following four courses:
  • Architecture of Complex Systems
  • Models in Engineering
  • Model-Based Systems Engineering: Documentation and Analysis
  • Quantitative Methods in Systems Engineering

Data Science: Data to Insights

This MIT Professional Education Data Science: Data to Insights digital course, in collaboration with the MIT Institute for Data, Systems, and Society (IDSS), took participants through the analytical techniques they needed to go from data to insights in practice.

Internet of Things: Roadmap to a Conneted World

D. Rus, S. Sarma
Taught by a team of world-renowned researchers with expertise in the architectures and applications of IoT, the Internet of Things (IoT): Roadmap to a Connected World course introduced both the broad range of IoT technologies and the most recent developments in the space. Guided by faculty and researchers from MIT’s Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence Laboratory (CSAIL), Media Lab, SENSEable City Lab, Department of Mechanical Engineering, and the World Wide Web Consortium.

Tackling the Challenges of Big Data

D. Rus, S. Madden
This online program surveyed state-of-the-art topics in Big Data, looked at data collection (smartphones, sensors, the Web), data storage and processing (scalable relational databases, Hadoop, Spark, etc.), and extracted structured data from unstructured data, systems issues (exploiting multicore, security), analytics (machine learning, data compression, efficient algorithms), visualization, and a range of applications.

Cybersecurity: Technology, Application and Policy

In partnership with MIT’s Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence Laboratory (CSAIL), this fast-paced, six-week online course provided a holistic look at cybersecurity technologies, techniques, and systems.

Entrepreneurial Negotiations: The MIT Way

L. Susskind
This online program was led by MIT’s renowned negotiation expert, Professor Lawrence Susskind, and was developed by the inter-university Program on Negotiation at Harvard Law School. Participants in the program practiced negotiation skills via simulations, role-plays, case studies, and peer-provided feedback. They emerged with a toolkit of negotiation techniques that will prepare them to join the MIT entrepreneurial success story.
